How to Recognize Real Raw Honey: A Practical Guide

What is raw honey?
Raw honey is honey that has not been heated at high temperatures or heavily filtered. It may crystallize, contain bits of wax or pollen, and often comes from a single known origin. Real raw honey is not always liquid—crystallization is normal and often a sign of quality.
Labels and origin
- Country and region – Look for a clear country of origin (e.g. Poland, EU) and preferably the region or beekeeper.
- "Raw" or "unheated" – Reputable producers state if honey is raw or cold-processed.
- No "blend of EU/non-EU" only – Vague blending with no single origin is a red flag.
Simple checks at home
Crystallization, thickness, and a natural scent are typical of real honey. Honey that never crystallizes and is extremely runny can be suspicious. For more certainty, buy from beekeepers or trusted brands that disclose origin and processing.
